All skill levels of watercolor painters are welcome at this Monday afternoon session of our new class, “Watercolor Mondays” with Key West artist, Karen Beauprie. Beginning with a 30 minute daily demo, Karen will offer a variety of challenges for both the novice and the advanced painter, including still life set ups, plein air (outdoor) painting, and the use of reference photos of architecture, landscapes, flowers, and figures. A new subject or watercolor technique will be tackled each week in a step-by-step format. Walk-ins are always welcome! If you understand the fundamentals of watercolor and want to further explore how to compose, paint and control the medium, join Karen each week this season to gain confidence and spark your creativity. All participants must bring their own supplies, including an easel and stool for plein air sessions.

    Techniques/Activities:

Beginning each session with a demo, the instructor will cover the following areas of the curriculum:Working primarily on location in transparent watercolor, Karen Beauprie translates the light, movement, architecture, people and natural landscape of the Florida Keys. Watercolors force her to work quickly and deliberately using a minimal amount of brush strokes and the flow of the water to addtexture, shapes, values, vibrant colors, and character to her subjects. By painting, en plein air, French for “in the open air”, Karen feels a direct connection to the landscape and the challenges of the outdoors, including the weather, tourists, and the occasional rooster.
