PROPOSE A PERFORMANCE

Thank you for your interest in proposing a program at The Studios of Key West. This page provides an overview of the program and the materials you’ll need to prepare before submitting a proposal.

Quick Notes

• The proposal period is open January-June annually. Selections are made in the summer with notifications sent out in mid-August for the following season.
• Our performance season runs October-June.
• There is no fee to submit. Submissions are accepted via slideroom.com only.
• Performances take place in the 186-seat Helmerich Theater or the 86-seat Hugh’s View rooftop terrace.
• We welcome proposals across genres — including music, dance, theater, spoken word, and more — as well as staged readings of new plays in development through our First Look series.

About the Performances Program

Each year, The Studios offers a wide variety of performances in our Helmerich Theater, which serves as the perfect space for theater productions, intimate concerts, seminars, and much more. It is also possible to propose performance events to take place on Hugh’s View, our rooftop terrace, for smaller audiences.

Decisions regarding which theater productions to present at The Studios flow from the organization’s Purpose, Strategies, and Values, which emphasize directing resources to artists to create innovative work that strengthens our community. To that end, theater presentations at The Studios must be either new works or reinterpretations of existing works. Successful proposals will also create a dialog on contemporary themes.

Interesting proposals may also incorporate the following elements:

• Out-of-town artists working alongside local artists
• Collaboration with other organizations
• A specific aim to engage new audiences
• Strong preference is given to proposals for new works or reinterpretations of existing works.

Performance Proposal Details

The information below is a preview of the questions and materials you will be asked to provide in the online proposal form.

• A brief synopsis or overview of the piece you’re proposing.
• What is the relevance/importance of this piece?
• How many performers/actors would be involved in this production?
• How many creative crew members (director, stage managers, set designers, etc) would be involved in this production?
• Would the crew consist of local creatives, out-of-town talent, or both?
• Please provide an estimate/simple budget of how much the program will cost to produce.
