With The Grain II: Stories in Wood
Opens Thursday, March 4, 6-8pm
About the Exhibition
This anniversary season, we present a follow up to the 2019 exhibition With the Grain with which we launched the Edna and Tom Majors Fund, the first program endowment at The Studios and a major benchmark for our organization.
With the Grain II focuses on artists who use wood to tell stories. Like modern Gepettos, they employ their formidable creativity and a vast array of techniques to craft works that speak to the viewer. From miniature worlds to imaginary beings, the works are cut, carved, chiseled and assembled, invariably retaining the warmth and character of the medium. By its nature, wood suggests the handmade and often finds itself relegated to the quasi-domestic realm of craft. In the hands of these artists, however, the medium grants freedom in its directness, like folk tales or oral histories passed down by their makers.
Artists include (confirmed so far): Catherine Solmo, Elizabeth Devries, Eva Strum, and John Buck.

Let the Light In: Celebrating 20 Years
For twenty years, The Studios of Key West has brought artists, audiences, and ideas together—creating space to make, share, experiment, and connect. This anniversary season, we celebrate the people and creative spirit that brought us here, while looking ahead to all that’s still to come.
