Manuel Mendive
Opens Thursday, January 7, 6-8pm
About the Exhibition
Internationally acclaimed Afro-Cuban artist Manuel Mendive brings his visionary work to The Studios of Key West in a major exhibition celebrating one of the Caribbean’s most influential contemporary artists.
For more than six decades, Mendive has explored the profound connections between humanity, nature, ancestry, and spirituality through painting, sculpture, drawing, and performance. Deeply rooted in Yoruba traditions and Afro-Cuban culture, his richly symbolic works blur the boundaries between people, animals, spirits, and the natural world, creating vivid visual narratives that speak to both personal identity and shared human experience.
With works held in museums and private collections around the world, Mendive’s art invites viewers into a universe where myth and memory coexist, history lives within the landscape, and every living thing is connected.
