Shannon Martin Perkins: Making the Ordinary, Extraordinary
Opens Thursday, November 5, 6-8pm
About the Exhibition
Beer caps, golf balls, vinyl records, worn shoes and crumpled cans become larger than life in this series of vibrant oil paintings by Florida Keys artist Perkins. Using bold color, dramatic light and expressive brushwork, familiar objects are transformed into energetic contemporary still lifes. Look closely and realism gives way to unexpected colors, reflections and painterly details inviting us to see the beauty in things we might otherwise overlook.

About the Artist
Born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, SHAN earned bachelor’s degrees in Graphic Design and Art Education from the University of Illinois. Drawn irresistibly to the sun-drenched shores of the tropics, SHAN made her way to Florida. The tight-knit community of Key West wholeheartedly supports her mission to use art to make the world a better place.
