Susanna Burque: Residents of The Florida Keys—The Great Southern White Butterfly

About the Exhibition
Burque takes inspiration from the Ascia monuste (great southern white butterfly), creating countless hand-cut butterfly forms that fill the gallery in an immersive installation. The work evokes the dramatic swarms of white butterflies that periodically emerge across the Florida Keys, translating this fleeting natural phenomenon into the gallery space.

About the Artist
Susanna Burque is a Key West–based artist whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Italy, and Finland. She holds BFAs and MFAs from the Corcoran School of Art, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, and has participated in artist residencies throughout the United States, Europe, and India. A three-time People’s Choice Award winner at The Studios of Key West, Burque was also a 2026 recipient of an Anne McKee Artists Fund grant. Her work is held in public and private collections, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art/National Gallery of Art, Virginia Commonwealth University, Shanghai University, and Rochester Contemporary Art Center.
